In 2013, RTP won the Facility of the Year award in the facility integration category from the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Processing magazine and INTERPHEX, one of the industry’s leading trade events. With this facility we introduced an innovative process for early-stage clinical products. Single-use technology in a closed system replaces the traditional stainless-steel systems. This increases flexibility and speed of supplying drugs for clinical studies, and reduces the environmental impacts of the manufacturing process.

Hillerød, Denmark

Biogen’s Hillerød complex brings together all production-related facilities outside the U.S. and also plays a pivotal role in the company’s global supply network. The site includes a large-scale manufacturing facility; a facility for assembly, labeling and packing; quality-control laboratories and extensive quality-assurance and engineering organizations.

The Hillerød site is the single-largest foreign greenfield investment in Denmark. In 2013, Biogen earned AmCham’s Foreign Company Award in recognition for job creation and investment generated by the Hillerød complex.

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Originally opened in 1989, our Cambridge facility is the longest running in Biogen’s global manufacturing network.

Our Cambridge site also provides cGMP supply for early and mid-stage pipeline programs — as many as 20 development candidates over the site’s history.

The Cambridge manufacturing team is also responsible for a label and packaging operation that supplies sites around the world with products for clinical trials.       

Quality-control laboratories, quality assurance and engineering functions support all manufacturing operations.
